My son's first birthday

I have a 1 year-old son, and his birthday is coming. The first birthday of a baby is traditionally meaningful and important here in Korea, thus, I'm also throwing a party for my son. First, I should invite my family to my house and prepare several kinds of food, of course. Some people hold huge parties in an expensive restaurant, but my husband and I want to have a peaceful time with family only. For the first birthday, Koreans usually do many things to celebrate the happy day, but among them 'doljabi' would be special and we would do funny thing for that day, I think. The 'doljabi' is a kind of event for foreseeing baby's future. More specifically speaking, several symbolic items standing for baby's future are prepared; for example, money means for being a rich person, pencil to become a scholar, stethoscope to become a medical doctor, hammer to become a judge and so on. Once these items are shown to the baby, the baby should grab one of these things. People believe that the chosen item represents what kind of person the baby will be in the future. These days, I think money is the best item that most of the parents hope their baby would select. I just hope that my son would grow up well and be a person who can enjoy his own life.
