The decision by the British Ministry of Education is mainly attributable to adverse effects of stopping corporal punishment altogether. Under the circumstances that teachers are not allowed to use physical punishment, there are growing numbers of problems such as students who are likely to use violence, deteriorating(sagging) power of teachers’ rights. Some guru say that school itself is in crisis. Last year alone on average 1,000 students a day were suspended for violent behavior, which is twice than in 2009. Last year 44 teachers were abused by students and they were hospitalized in critical condition and also a newly appointed female teacher was abused sexually by a male student in a classroom. No wonder two-thirds of teachers are unwilling (reluctant) to stay as a teacher.(are willing to quit their job.)
