I hung out with a friend yesterday.
I wanted to watch a movie in the theater.
(or I wanted to go to the movies.)
Because I hadn’t done that in a while.
(or that I hadn’t done that in a while.)
After that, we didn’t do too much. We just had a dinner at chinese place and talked for a couple of hours.
(or We just had dinner at Chinese place and..)

*I wrote one more sentence with () when I’m not sure which one is better.

I hung out with a friend yesterday.
I wanted to watch a movie in the theater. (or "at the theater")
(or I wanted to go to the movies.) - both of these sentences sound good
Because I hadn’t done that in a while. - this sounds better when directly attached to the previous sentence when you use the word "because"
(or that I hadn’t done that in a while.) - this sentence stands alone better as a following statement
After that, we didn’t do too much. We just had a dinner at a Chinese place and talked for a couple of hours. - the phrase you want is "we just had dinner" (I like your use of the transition "After that, we didn't do too much")
(or We just had dinner at a Chinese place and..) - remember to include "a" prior to the restaurant type

*I wrote one more sentence with () when I’m not sure which one is better. - "when I wasn't sure"
